LAUTECH students encouraged to pursue global opportunities at Mastercard Foundation Scholarship information session
Students
of the Department of Political Science, Ladoke Akintola University of
Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, have been encouraged to pursue
international academic opportunities.
The
call was made on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at a Mastercard Foundation
Scholarship information session facilitated by Richard Ige, a Mastercard
Foundation scholar at Sciences Po, Paris.
The
event was hosted by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social
Sciences, Professor Frank Temisanren Ebijuwa, who was represented by Professor
Niyi Osunbade, and Head of the Department of Political Science, Dr.
John Olanrewaju. Dignitaries at the programme Include Professor Abiodun Akeem Oladiti; and Head of Department of Psychology, Dr Oluwafunmilayo Adedoyin Oyinlola.
Sharing his personal journey, Ige described the scholarship as a life-changing opportunity that enabled him to study abroad.
He
stressed that information remains a powerful tool for transforming
lives and said the session was part of his commitment to giving back by
helping aspiring scholars understand the application process and prepare
for global opportunities.
The
session introduced participants to postgraduate study opportunities at
Sciences Po, one of the world's leading institutions for political
studies, currently ranked third globally and first in Europe in
Politics.
Students
received guidance on admission requirements, programme selection,
faculty research, networking opportunities, and strategies for preparing
competitive applications.
Ige
also explained the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship, describing it as a
prestigious, fully funded programme for academically outstanding but
financially disadvantaged African students.
The
scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend, books,
and professional support throughout the scholars' academic journey.
He
urged students to begin preparing early by maintaining excellent
academic records, developing leadership experience, engaging in
volunteer activities, and strengthening their essay-writing skills.
He also encouraged them to connect with scholarship communities and past beneficiaries for mentorship and guidance.
He
emphasised the need for students to embrace academic excellence, social
impact, and global engagement, with the hope of seeing more LAUTECH
graduates emerge as future Mastercard Foundation Scholars at Sciences
Po.
