LAUTECH consolidates presence among top 2% global scientists



LAUTECH has once again demonstrated her scholarly feat in the just released list of top 2% scientists worldwide as published by Elsevier/Stanford University, USA. 

The list parades top scientists which are evaluated annually based on the metrics from scopus, a renowned world leading academic database. 

In the 2025 edition, 291 Nigerian scholars affiliated with institutions within the country in the latest ranking.

While eight scholars affiliated with LAUTECH are on the 2025 list, six of them belonged to members of academic staff, and two were former students of the University who continue to affiliate with LAUTECH, through their mentors.

At its debut in 2020, LAUTECH had three of her scholars on the list for four years, which rose to five scholars in 2024, and now six in 2025. 

The current list parades late Prof. Abass A. Olajire (Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry) ranked 5th in Nigeria, Prof. Olugbenga S. Bello (Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry) ranked 18th in Nigeria, Prof. Agbaje Lateef (Department of Pure and Applied Biology) ranked 0 in Nigeria, Dr. Samson Olaniyi (Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics) ranked 178th in Nigeria, Dr. Roland E. Akhigbe (Physiology) ranked 249th in Nigeria, and Prof. Ayodeji F. Ajayi (Physiology) who was ranked 280th out of 291 Nigerians on the list.

The trio of late Prof. Abass A. Olajire, Prof. Olugbenga S. Bello and Prof. Agbaje Lateef have been ranked as top 2% scientists in the world for six consecutive years. They are also the three most cited scholars in the University.

The University celebrates the stellar performance of these scholars among others in positioning LAUTECH as a top player in comity of institutions.
