LAUTECH VC charges NISLT inductees on professionalism, integrity

The Vice-Chancellor of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, has charged newly inducted graduates of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) to uphold professionalism, integrity, excellence, and ethical conduct as they begin their careers.

The Vice-Chancellor gave the charge on Thursday at the induction ceremony of the 2024/2025 graduates of the SLT Department held on the University campus. 

He highlighted the department's recent achievements, including the successful presentation of its third set of students for the April 2026 Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) Mandatory Professional Examination, full accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the University's recognition as a South-West MPE Centre by NISLT.

Professor Kalilu, who was represented at the ceremony by the University Librarian, Professor Adefunke Sarah Ebijuwa, appreciated the leadership of NISLT for its sustained partnership with the University and commended the Dean of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, past and present Heads of the Department, as well as the academic and administrative staff for their commitment to the growth and development of the Department.

Congratulating the inductees, the Vice-Chancellor described their induction as the beginning of a new phase of professional responsibility, urging them to remain worthy ambassadors of LAUTECH by upholding integrity, professionalism, excellence, and ethical conduct. 

He also commended parents and guardians for their sacrifices and support, wishing the graduates remarkable success in their chosen careers.

In his keynote the Acting Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT), Dr. Peter Adefisoye, who was represented by Dr. Pious Ikokoh, urged the inductees to prepare for the future by deploying their professional knowledge and skills responsibly. 

He noted that the induction ceremony marked not merely the completion of an academic programme but the formal admission of the graduates into a profession that demands competence, integrity, innovation, responsibility, and lifelong learning.

Dr. Adefisoye expressed delight that the National Universities Commission (NUC), through the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), has strengthened the Science Laboratory Technology curriculum by recognising eight specialised options within the programme. 

According to him, the development has expanded opportunities for professional specialisation and positioned graduates to compete favourably in the global scientific community. 

He stressed that the future belongs to professionals who continually acquire new knowledge, develop new competencies, and adapt to emerging technologies.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Dean of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, Professor Olusope Alade, reoresented by Professor P.B. Ayoola, described the occasion as a landmark event in the history of the Faculty. 

He noted that LAUTECH is one of the six pioneer Universities of Technology approved to run degree programmes in Science Laboratory Technology and the first to secure accreditation from both the NUC and NISLT. 

He added that the University was the first to present graduates for induction into NISLT sixteen years ago and recently hosted the April 2026 Diet of the Institute's Modules I and II Mandatory Professional Examination. 

Professor Alade commended the Vice-Chancellor and members of the University Management for their untiring support towards repositioning the Department for greater excellence.

Also speaking, the Head of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Professor Olusegun Olabisi, stated that the induction of graduates into the professional body has become an annual tradition, with the 2024/2025 ceremony being the fifteenth in the Department's history. 

He disclosed that a total of 284 graduates were inducted across the various options in the Department, with one graduate earning a First Class degree, graduating with an outstanding CGPA of 4.74.

The ceremony attracted principal officers of the University, representatives of NISLT, members of the University community, parents, guardians, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the newly inducted Science Laboratory Technology professionals.

Earlier, before the ceremony, a delegation comprising officials from NISLT led by Dr. Ikokoh, the Association of Science Laboratory Technologists of Nigeria (ASLTON), LAUTECH Branch, and officials of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, led by the Head of the Department, Prof. Olabisi, paid a courtesy visit of the office of the Vice-Chancellor.
